Looking Ahead: Exploring the Future of the TWS Fleet

At TWS, our fleet has always been something we take real pride in. For a long time now, we have operated as a 100% Scania fleet, and that is not by accident. Scania has served us incredibly well—reliable, comfortable, efficient, and trusted by both our drivers and our operations team.

However, as our business continues to grow and the refrigerated transport industry evolves, it is only right that we occasionally step back and ask ourselves some important questions about how we best serve our customers.

Why Look at Other Options?

The transport industry never stands still. Technology moves on, fuel efficiency improves, and manufacturers are constantly refining safety, comfort, and emissions performance. With that in mind, we have decided to trial different tractor units alongside our existing setup.

This isn’t about dissatisfaction—far from it. It is about making informed, strategic decisions for the future of TWS Transport. The questions we are asking ourselves are simple, but vital for our long-term strategy:

  • Do we continue as a dedicated 100% Scania fleet?
  • Do we move away entirely?
  • Or do we operate a mixed fleet moving forward?

There is no rush to answer these questions, and that is exactly the point. Real-world experience, direct feedback from our drivers, running costs, reliability, and performance will all play a part in shaping our decision.

Loyalty vs. Innovation: Finding the Balance

Anyone who knows us knows that loyalty matters at TWS. On a personal level, I served my time on Scania, and that counts for something. There is a familiarity and trust that comes with sticking to what you know—and there is a lot to be said for a loyal, well-served fleet that drivers enjoy working in day after day.

Consistency also brings operational benefits: streamlined maintenance, familiar systems, and a strong fleet identity that is instantly recognised on the road.

However, this trial isn’t about chasing trends or changing for the sake of it. It is about ensuring that whatever decisions we take next are the right ones for our drivers, our customers, and the long-term health of the business.

Trialing the Volvo FH with Bryan Salads

As part of this evaluation process, we are currently trialing a Volvo FH. To get a genuine feel for its performance, we took the unit to one of our long-standing customers, Bryan Salads.

In a fantastic moment of collaboration, the Chief Operating Officer of Bryan Salads Jon Bragg went back to his roots, jumping behind the wheel to give us his expert feedback. It is these kinds of partnerships—where we can work closely with customers to test equipment in real-world scenarios—that define how we operate.

The Road Ahead

Whether our future is 100% Scania, a mixed fleet, or something different altogether, one thing won’t change: our commitment to reliable service, quality equipment, and doing things properly.

As always, we will take our time, listen to the people who matter most, and make the call when we have all the facts in front of us.

Watch this space—the road ahead is an interesting one.
